There are many different types of stress and various impacts that stressful situations can have on all areas of our health. Review these possible stress-provoking situations. 

 

Sally is a hardworking young professional who was applauded for her work performance and given more responsibility. After a few months there is a rapid decline in her productivity and she is seen withdrawing from work. Sally’s new manager constantly criticizes her for her lack of productivity, which makes her performance worse, and causes her more worry.

 

Nancy is ready to leave the house for work and spills coffee on her clean work clothes. Then, she finds that her car will not start. When she tries to call for help, she realizes her cell phone is disconnected because she did not pay the bill. She starts to cry.

 

Bob found out that one of his best friends just died. The funeral will be held next week.

 

Tom is called at work and told that he needs to pick up his teenage son from school. This is the second time this year that his son has been sent home for fighting. Tom’s boss is not happy that he requests to leave work early.

 

Tracy, a single mother, finds she doesn’t have enough money left to buy food for her children before her next paycheck in two weeks. This is the third time this year she has struggled to put food on the table.

 

Choose one situation to evaluate and answer the following questions:

 

Does this represent chronic or acute stress?

 

What type of response might the body and brain be experiencing to manage the stressor?

 

What would be the goal for coping with this stress? (eliminate, reduce, tolerate)

 

What type of coping strategy should be implemented—emotion-focused coping or problem-directed coping? How would the individual employ this approach? In other words, using this type of coping strategy, what could he or she do to cope with the stressor? Give 2 examples.

 

Write 2 “coping self-statements” the individual might make in response to this stressor. You will find some examples of coping self-statements in your textbook.

 

What are some of the potential long-term impacts on this individual’s health if he or she does not find a way to cope with this stressor?

 

Please be sure you address each question, using terms and concepts from your text. A good initial discussion response should be at least 150–250 words in length.

It’s time to conduct a modified intake interview this week. This assignment is the culmination of your client interview project.

 

Using the basic counseling skills you have learned in this course, conduct an interview with the client athlete you’ve been working with throughout the course. Your session should be 30 minutes long.

 

Transcribe a record of your final session and ask your client to also take notes on your performance.Use the following outline as a guide for the interview:Ask your client to describe the issue causing the need for counseling.Use all the counseling skills you have gained so far to attend to your client and gather essential information.

Given the changing employee demographics and rapid updates to technology, it is important for organizations to link training and development to the needs and preferences of its workforce. Training facilitates acquisition of new knowledge and skills, and development facilitates the ability to handle future responsibilities. Continual training helps ensure that employees have the skills, information, and motivation required to successfully achieve organizational objectives.

 

Based on the company you chose for your discussion question this week, create a 10-15 slide PowerPoint presentation which includes the following:

 

Summarize the current organizational training program.

 

Explain why you believe the organization’s current training model is effective or ineffective

 

Present an idea for a new training program or component to the existing training program which would promote employee engagement

 

Explain why the new program or component would be effective

 

Describe the desired outcomes of the new training program/component

Short Paper: Ethical Issues 

 

Evaluate potential ethical issues that should be considered or guarded against when developing treatment interventions for children or adolescents. Describe steps that should be followed to ensure that potential ethical issues are addressed properly as treatment options are determined and applied.

While the topics vary, your papers, at a minimum, should do the following:

 

·Answer the question or address the issue(s) described in the instructions.

 

·Include your perspective, when applicable, and share your opinion or explain your rationale for your position.

 

·Be sure to support your responses with scholarly research, and include references and citations for material presented that I not your own original work. You can use first person to indicate your opinion (I, my, etc.) in lieu of listing yourself as a source.

 

Format: Short papers should follow these formatting guidelines: 2–4 pages, double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and citations in APA format.

Disruption in memory can occur at different stages: retention, encoding, storage, or retrieval. Describe two factors that interfere in recall. Give examples of how this may be present in a client seeking counseling and how you would address the problem. Post should be at least 300 words. Respond to at least two of your classmates

Utilizing the information you compiled for your literature review paper, and the feedback you received from your instructor about the literature review, prepare a 10-15 minute Power Point presentation on your topic, summarizing the key points and conclusions. Be sure to direct this presentation to an audience in the community. For example, if your paper pertained to a topic in developmental psychology, direct your presentation toward parents, or a parenting center. If your topic pertained to substance abuse, direct it toward a community service agency which may use this information for educating teens or parents about preventing drug use, or current clients about treatments and facilities available. Please state in your presentation the specific audience toward whom your presentation is aimed. Include a reference page in APA format, as well as speaker notes and an audio file with your presentation.

 

Your slides should provide answers to the following questions: 

 

What was your topic?

 

What question did you hope to answer by completing this literature review paper? Explain the practical implications of the conclusions of the literature review and the audience to which they are directed.

 

Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? In other words, which of those is supported by the existing evidence? Be sure to include full coverage of the arguments, including strengths and weaknesses of each of them, supported by your findings from reviewing the relevant articles.

 

Did the researchers consider multicultural factors in their studies? If not, what factors may be involved? What multicultural factors should future studies include?

 

What ethical issues are related to your topic and/or discussed in the studies you reviewed?

 

How do the conclusions of your literature review relate to the various specialization areas in psychology? Tie them to as many as apply from the following areas: biological, cognitive, developmental, social, personality theory, psychopathology, and applied psychology.

 

How can the conclusions of your literature review inform the population towards whom your presentation is directed? How can they apply this information to their daily lives? What advice or ‘take home message’ can you provide to your audience based on the research you reviewed?

 

What research question could you ask in order to further develop this area of study?

 

Why is your research question important and relevant to the current work being done on your topic?

 

Your presentation should also follow these guidelines:

 

It should be approximately 10-15 minutes in length.

 

It should be clear, concise, and professional.  Writing should be free of spelling and grammatical errors; it should conform to current APA style (including any in-text citations).

 

It should include graphs, tables, figures, or images illustrating your ideas.

 

There should be a final slide listing references in current APA style.

 

The bulk of the text should be placed in the Notes pages of each slide. Keep the amount of text on the slide, itself, to a minimum.

 

You should record an audio file of your oral presentation. You should also type the text of the speech you would give while showing these slides to an audience should be typed into the Notes area.  If you are unable to use the audio feature, the Notes text will suffice.

With so many individuals using the Internet today, the psychology of the individual, the family, the community, and the society has changed. Some might argue that the traditional psychological theories cannot be applied and therefore psychology as an entire field needs to be revamped to incorporate the impact and the application of internet technology. As a student completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, your future career will undoubtedly incorporate the use of the Internet in very new ways. Read the following article from the AUO Library:

Debate Death With Dignity
