ALL PREVIOUS PROJECTS ARE ATTACHED FOR REFERENCE. PLEASE USE PRESENTATION TEMPLATE.

Overview

This is the fifth and final course project deliverable in the series of five sequential assignments in this course. You are continuing on in your role as the CTO of a hypothetical e-commerce start-up company of your design.

Throughout the course, you have been working on delivering an information technology project plan in anticipation of the company relocating to a new facility.

  • In the first course project deliverable, you created a project plan inception document and supporting Gantt chart.
  • In the second course project deliverable, you developed the business requirements to be incorporated into the information systems design you are creating. You also updated your original supporting Gantt chart based on major and minor tasks identified in the business requirements document.
  • In the third course project deliverable, you created an infrastructure design that considered the key elements of software, hardware, security, and business process flow for your e-commerce startup company. Once again you updated the supporting Gantt chart based on the major and minor tasks identified in the infrastructure design document.
  • In the fourth course project deliverable you developed the system implementation document. This document spelled out the EFI technical aspects of your e-commerce company’s information systems infrastructure. Again you updated the supporting Gantt chart to reflect the major and minor tasks identified in the system implementation document.

You are now in the final stage of the project plan development. You will leverage all previous deliverables and integrate them into one document that will serve as the projects statement of work.

Your goal is for the start-up companys executive team and the venture capital group to approve and fund your project. The detailed project plan is necessary to accomplish the monumental implementation task. The executive team and investors, however, are only interested in an executive summary in the form of a 1015-slide PowerPoint presentation. As a result, you are required to create a compelling PowerPoint presentation, supported by the detail in your project plan, which convinces the executive group that your solution is optimal.

This assignment consists of two parts:

Part 1: Comprehensive Project Plan

You will create an 810-page final comprehensive project plan. This document will distill down the most salient points from each of the four previous course deliverables into one integrated, cohesive comprehensive project plan that persuades investors of the recommended approach.

Critical Note: Do NOT simply combine the previous four assignments into one 3050-page document. Instead, your task is to:

  • Review each of the four previous assignments.
  • Select the most critical information from each that investors need to know to make an informed investment decision.
  • Summarize the information you selected.
  • Ensure that the selected information flows from one section to the next in a cohesive and compelling fashion.
Part 2: Executive Presentation

You will create a 1015-slide compelling executive presentation that convinces the start-up companys executive team and potential investors to invest in the company. Your recommended solution is the one that can grow this $5 million dollar e-commerce start-up company into a $30 million dollar company within the next two years.

Instructions

Part 1: Comprehensive Project Plan

You are to write a comprehensive 810-page comprehensive, final project plan in which you:

  1. Describe the project’s goals, objectives, scope, and control measures.
  2. Relate the value of the proposed solution to the competitive advantage that information technology will afford the e-commerce company.
  3. Provide a rough estimate of the entire projects cost, including hardware, software, and labor.
    • The work you did to create the bill of materials in the fourth course project deliverable will help you with this.
  4. Use three sources to support your writing.
    • Choose sources that are credible, relevant, and appropriate.
    • Cite each source listed on your source page at least one time within your assignment.
    • Access the library or review library guides for help with research, writing, and citation.
Part 2: Executive Presentation

You are to create a 1015-slide executive PowerPoint presentation to persuade potential investors to invest in your e-commerce start-up company. In your presentation you are to:

  1. Illustrate the concepts from your 810-page comprehensive project plan in an executive presentation.
  2. Create bulleted speaking notes to the executive board in the Notes section of your PowerPoint presentation.

Note:

  • Create or assume any fictitious names, data, or scenarios that have not been established in this assignment for a realistic flow of communication.
  • Consider including images, graphics, charts, tables, etc. in your presentation to increase audience engagement.

Discussion 6 150 – 200 words

Facebook, Inc.

Facebook has been in the news with criticism of its privacy policies, sharing customer information with Fusion GPS, and criticism regarding the attempts to influence the 2016 election. In March 2014, Facebook released a study entitled Experimental evidence of massive-scale emotional contagion through social networks. It was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), a prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journal. The paper explains how social media can readily transfer emotional states from person to person through Facebooks News Feed platform. Facebook conducted an experiment on members to see how people would respond to changes in a percentage of both positive and negative posts. The results suggest that emotional contagion does occur online and that users positive expressions can generate positive reaction, while, in turn, negative expression can generate negative reaction.Facebook has two separate value propositions aimed at two different markets with entirely different goals.Originally, Facebooks main market was its end userspeople looking to connect with family and friends. At first, it was aimed only at college students at a handful of elite schools. The site is now open to anyone with an Internet connection. Users can share status updates and photographs with friends and family. And all of this comes at no cost to the users.Facebooks other major market is advertisers, who buy information about Facebooks users. The company regularly gathers data about page views and browsing behavior of users in order to display targeted advertisements to users for the benefit of its advertising partners. The value proposition of the Facebook News Feed experiment was to determine whether emotional manipulation would be possible through the use of social networks. This clearly could be of great value to one of Facebooks target audiencesits advertisers. The results suggest that the emotions of friends on social networks influence our own emotions, thereby demonstrating emotional contagion via social networks. Emotional contagion is the tendency to feel and express emotions similar to and influenced by those of others. Originally, it was studied by psychologists as the transference of emotions between two people.According to Sandra Collins, a social psychologist and University of Notre Dame professor of management, it is clearly unethical to conduct psychological experiments without the informed consent of the test subjects. While tests do not always measure what the people conducting the tests claim, the subjects need to at least know that they are, indeed, part of a test. The subjects of this test on Facebook were not explicitly informed that they were participating in an emotional contagion experiment. Facebook did not obtain informed consent as it is generally defined by researchers, nor did it allow participants to opt out. When information about the experiment was released, the media response was overwhelmingly critical. Tech blogs, newspapers, and media reports reacted quickly.Josh Constine of TechCrunch wrote:

. . . there is some material danger to experiments that depress people. Some people who are at risk of depression were almost surely part of Facebooks study group that were shown a more depressing feed, which could be considered dangerous. Facebook will endure a whole new level of backlash if any of those participants were found to have committed suicide or had other depression-related outcomes after the study.

The New York Times quoted Brian Blau, a technology analyst with the research firm Gartner, Facebook didnt do anything illegal, but they didnt do right by their customers. Doing psychological testing on people crosses the line. Facebook should have informed its users, he said. They keep on pushing the boundaries, and this is one of the reasons people are upset. While some of the researchers have since expressed some regret about the experiment, Facebook as a company was unapologetic about the experiment. The company maintained that it received consent from its users through its terms of service. A Facebook spokesperson defended the research, saying, We do research to improve our services and make the content people see on Facebook as relevant and engaging as possible. . . . We carefully consider what research we do and have a strong internal review process. With the more recent events, Facebook is changing the privacy settings but still collects an enormous amount of information about its users and can use that information to manipulate what users see. Additionally, these items are not listed on Facebooks main terms of service page. Users must click on a link inside a different set of terms to arrive at the data policy page, making these terms onerous to find. This positioning raises questions about how Facebook will employ its users behaviors in the future.Critical Thinking Questions

  1. How should Facebook respond to the 2014 research situation? How could an earlier response have helped the company avoid the 2018 controversies and keep the trust of its users?
  2. Should the company promise to never again conduct a survey of this sort? Should it go even further and explicitly ban research intended to manipulate the responses of its users?
  3. How can Facebook balance the concerns of its users with the necessity of generating revenue through advertising?
  4. What processes or structures should Facebook establish to make sure it does not encounter these issues again?
  5. Respond in writing to the issues presented in this case by preparing two documents: a communication strategy memo and a professional business letter to advertisers.

Chapter 10

Immunomedics was alerted that there was some negative buzz about the company in a chat room. The poster used a pseudonym, and therefore the company was unable to identify the poster for lawsuit purposes. The only information the company could ascertain was the poster’s ISP. So the company decided to subpoena the ISP for identity information of the poster in order to file suite against the poster. How should the courts handle these cases, where the company’s complaints may, or may not rise to the level of an actionable legal claim?

6/3 Second Paper

Resources:

The following websites provide some guidance on compliance and governance planning:

Example plans:

Remember, these are examples. You are not producing a lengthy plan. Use these resources as guidance in developing your project plan.

Instructions.

  1. You will complete this paper in the form of a compliance and governance plan for an organization. You may use your own organization (although you must change the name for confidentiality purposes) or use a fictitious company. You may use the internet to look for examples of privacy policies and compliance and governance plans; however, the plan you develop must be in your own words. The plan must cover the issues and concerns that need to be addressed by the plan, including the following:
    1. Privacy issues of customers
    2. Protection of intellectual property your organization possesses (assume the company has some copyrighted or patented material [e.g., software] or some product)
    3. Cyberlaws that will apply to your organization
  2. The paper should be outlined as follows:
    1. Executive summary/introduction: Include the issues and concerns to be addressed by the plan. Provide four to five paragraphs introducing the plan, including the rationales for developing a compliance plan and the goals of doing so.
    2. Sections: Include sections that address each of the concerns noted above. See the bulleted points on topics the plan should cover. Provide a paragraph at the beginning of each section. Include any additional sections you believe necessary to develop a comprehensive plan.
    3. Conclusion: Provide a four- or five-paragraph conclusion to the plan. A bulleted list of recommendations would help to summarize the plan. Include suggestions for implementing the plan.
  3. The paper should be about 15  pages in length (double-spaced), and transitions between sections should be addressed.
  4. Any graphics or tables do not count toward the page count.
