Module 05 Discussion – HR In A Unionized Company

In a unionized work environment, it’s critical that the labor union(s) and human resources management work together. The mutual goal is to create and maintain a positive workforce for productivity and satisfaction. The presence of a labor union poses a number of challenges for HR management. Conduct academic research and identify at least two of these challenges. Then, suggest ways for HR managers to overcome these challenges.

Module 05 Discussion – Performance Appraisal Processes

Refer to the self-assessment activity you did this module on labor relations laws. Then conduct academic research and select one of the laws to report about on the forum. Then, find a court case based on that law; provide the details about the case and the legal outcome of the case, and explain if you agree with the court’s decision.

Danger And Opportunity

Please complete a one page paper examining one of the following issues from your assigned reading this week:

  1. Pointing to the tough realities, such as globalization, faced by one or two nations studied during the past 10 weeks, explain what you think Richard Feinberg meant about how we try to solve problems when he said: “Sometimes I wonder if we put all the problems (of the world) on a circular board, all the proposed solutions on an outer wheel, and just spun away, and implemented each solution wherever it stopped on the wheel, whether we wouldn’t do as well.”
  2. Albert Einstein said that unless we change our “modes of thinking” about political issues, we are headed toward “unparalleled catastrophe.” Do you agree or disagree with this statement? In your answer, please refer to Table 17.1 in Chapter 17 of your textbook.

Social Media Paper-Business Ethics

Focusing on social media and/or privacy research, discuss one or more ethical problems common to the workplace. Look at ethical decision making in relation to social and business outcomes. Papers which use examples and reference current real-life situations will earn higher grades than those which do not. (Note: you may not use the 2012 Penn State scandal as a reference for this assignment.)

Requirements

  • Five to seven pages in length
  • Double-spaced with one-inch margins
  • Written in accordance with APA style
  • Concise and well-sourced (at least five credible sources, more is better)
  • Focused on a position which has been defended
  • Sources of information used are provided

Evaluating An Action Plan

“Evaluating an Action Plan” Please respond to the following:
Determine three barriers that could disrupt an action plan geared towards implementing a new strategy. Propose solutions to these foreseen barriers.
Suggest three factors that are necessary to the successful implementation of an action plan strategy. Provide a rationale for your belief in the importance of the three factors that you have suggested

Organizational Transformation

Think of an organization you have worked for or one with which you are very familiar.  Diagnose the need for change and present a plan to transform the organization, utilizing Kotter’s 8-Step Approach.

You will need to research the Kotter 8 Step Change Model extensively. You are encouraged to first review this article https://managementisajourney.com/summary-of-kotters-eight-step-leading-change-model/.

You may select any organization or department where you work or where you have previously worked; however, you are strongly encouraged to diagnose one problem area in the company. Attempting to diagnose an entire company is not feasible, and you will become bogged down.

If you choose a company similar to Walmart to analyze, select just one area that you think needs improvement. For example, Walmart is now very strong in online shopping, yet there are still glitches in the system. Delivery times are often late, the packaging method has problems, and some products come from unknown vendors that Walmart does not guarantee. We may know this from personal experience, but that is not enough. Statements, opinions, and experiences must be supported with valid sources. There are many articles online that you can review easily and quickly.

Your sources for this paper must include research for the company you choose and a valid source for the Kotter model.

Assignment 2: Designing A Meeting

When communicating within the context of a meeting, leaders and managers always must be mindful the strengths and drawbacks of meetings. Knowing how to design, develop, and shape your messages is important.

Review the following scenario:

You have been selected to address the quarterly meeting of your company’s board of directors. You will be delivering negative updates that include low profits, pending lawsuits, and high employee turnover. The members of your board of directors are dispersed across the country.

Based on your analysis of the scenario and the meeting design practices covered in this module, address the following:

  • What measures will you take to ensure that you achieve the purpose of the meeting?
  • List and briefly explain the rationale for using the practices that you will adopt to ensure that the meeting proceeds smoothly and productively.

Write a 2–3-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Synthesis Paper: Doctoral Identity

In Topic 2, you were asked to  read three articles on the topic of doctoral identity and to complete an  annotated bibliography to demonstrate their understanding of the  material. In Topic 3, you were asked to take this process a step further  and identify themes found in the three articles and to complete a  synthesis worksheet where the themes were supported by evidence from  each article. In this assignment, you will build on your worksheet  efforts and write a paper about the three themes. The narrative will not  only present the evidence from the articles to support the identified  themes, but also will provide an analysis for each theme by synthesizing  the information collected.

General Requirements:

  • Locate the Synthesis Worksheet you completed in Topic 3.
  • Locate and download “Synthesis Paper Template” from the Course Materials for this topic.
  • Review the articles by Baker & Pifer (2011), Gardner (2009), and  Smith & Hatmaker (2014) located in the Course Materials for this  topic.
  • This assignment uses a rubric. Review the rubric prior to beginning  the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful  completion.

Communicating Project Risks

  1. Create a communications matrix for communicating the risk elements to your project stakeholders. The matrix should include the individual stakeholders (who), risk content (what), method used to transmit the information (how), and the frequency (when). These items should be specific to each stakeholder. An example matrix is as follows:

Stakeholder                Risk Content        Method             Frequency

  1. Write a memo to the project sponsor, responding to the following questions:
    • Why did you choose the waterfall method for your project?
    • Was the risk identification process appropriate for your project? Why or why not?
    • How did the quantitative and qualitative risk analyses help you in prioritizing the project risks and assigning numerical values?
    • What were some of the risk response strategies you did not use, and why were these not appropriate for the risks?
    • What are some ways that the risk management activities can be improved in future projects?

Final Portfolio

The final project will be comprised of revisions of each of your workshopped pieces, an artist statement introducing your portfolio, and a short reflection on the process of writing, revising and putting together the portfolio.

As an assignment, the Final Portfolio will be comprised of a single file containing the following, in the following order:

  • an artist statement introducing the portfolio
  • a short reflection on the process of writing, revising and putting together the portfolio
  • three versions of each of your workshop pieces, in the order in which they were written. Make sure to clearly indicate which version is which.
