RISK MANAGEMENT/CREATE A CHART

Use the following scenario. Review the scenario first and then continue on with your assignment. Consider saving the PDF or printing it out for your reference.

You have been meeting with the CEO, the project sponsor, your manager, and the heads of all the other departments to discuss the project and their expectations. You are starting to be concerned about the level of risk of this project and whether or not the organization really understands it. As far as you can tell, the company has never done formal risk management, taking a more relaxed approach to risks. You are starting to develop your risk management plan; you will present it to your manager and the sponsor in two weeks along with some other project planning deliverables.

Assignment Guidelines:

Create a project charter and identify the key constraints of the project (scope, budget, timeline, quality, people resources, etc.).
Using the scenario from this unit, create a spreadsheet that lists all the project risks you see based on what you currently know about the project. List at least 15 risks. For each project risk, provide a:
Detailed description
Category (schedule, strategy, people, etc.)
Note: This list will be used in later activities throughout the course.

Your submitted assignment (200 points) must include the following:

A 2-4 page typed document that includes:
A project charter and identification of key constraints
At least 15 risks listed in a spreadsheet with a detailed description and the category of each
Please submit your assignment

Architecture and Design

Throughout this semester, your point-of-view essays (POV’s) have prepared you to write your final paper. Beginning with the 3rd class, you’ve prepared single-page responses to various topics around the elegant complexity of urban ecology and our relationships with human settlements.  Similarly, your final paper will be created around a current topic or controversy, one that naturally embodies the three spheres of urban ecology.

For your paper, select a local controversy that you believe is of vital importance to you and the community. By following news reports, interviewing key players, or attending public meetings, learn as much as possible about the complex issues that surround your topic. Seek to discover as many points of view about the controversy as possible. If you are from someplace outside of the Salt Lake metropolitan area, you are welcome to choose a controversy from a place you care about. It is important that whatever topic you choose it is something that genuinely matters to you.

While this controversy may present itself first as either a social, environmental or economic problem, you have learned through the semester that no matter what the topic may be, it will embody all three spheres of urban ecology.

Your final paper is to be a well-researched, narrative expression of how you have learned to think like an ecosystem. In other words, no matter what the controversy may be, you are to describe the social, environmental and economic elements of the topic as the organizing elements for your paper. Importantly, you are also to include your point of view just as you have been doing throughout the semester. In some cases, papers may be of such quality and represent enough commitment that they could be modified for submission to a local newspaper as an opinion piece. Since your relationship with the topic is one that has you engaged as a student, it may also have you engaged as a citizen and an agent of change.

Papers are to be 10-12 pages in length, double-spaced, and in a 12 point font. There is no particular style required, however students are expected to submit a well-documented research paper, including citations. Papers may include any maps or images needed to adequately communicate your controversy.

Application: The Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention

Application: The Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention

Almost every part of the world has experienced the impact of a crisis or disaster, whether natural or man-made. Because of the breadth and number of crises/disasters over the past decade, scholarly research has increasingly tried to identify empirically supported interventions and evidence-based practices. Recent crisis research provides more appropriate intervention models than older models such as the Critical Incident Stress Management model (CISM). One model is the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention, which understands that a crisis can need both a linear progression and also tasks that need to be accomodated.

The Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention provides an uncomplicated approach for listening and acting on clients' behalf and includes both directive and non-directive interventions. This Hybrid Model has implications for Maslow's hierarchy of needs; it provides for a different type of intervention as opposed to typical counseling or psychotherapy. Maslow's initial level of hierarchical needs describes physiological needs. These physiological needs are the starting point for counselors' crisis intervention.

To prepare for this assignment:

Review Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, paying particular attention to the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention and the Triage Assessment Form: Crisis Intervention.

Review Chapter 5 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, and think about the differences between clinical, long- or short-term therapy, and crisis case handling. Consider skills you have that fit both.

Review the media , "During a Crisis-Counselor Interventions and Strategies" in this week's Learning Resources.

Review the articles, "Basic Need Status and Health-Promoting Behavior in Adults" and "The Hierarchy of Needs and Care Planning in Addiction Services: What Maslow Can Tell Us About Addressing Competing Priorities?" and think about the needs of the populations you are serving and how those needs can be met using the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention.

Review the Hybrid Model of Crisis Intervention and apply its steps in order to the Case Study provided in this week's Learning Resources.

Think about Maslow's hierarchy of needs and consider ways it applies to the Six-Step Model.

Support your Application Assignment with specific references to all resources used in its preparation. You are required to provide a reference list and to appropriately cite, APA style, all references used within your assignment.

Child Labor Essay

Child Labor

By: Alec G., Gwen B., Leo L., Madison K.

Background

In 1900, 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of 16

9-12 year old boys working for 50-60 cents and 10 hours per day -> some conditions were not even accepted by grown men

Children were good because they were small and could get into small places

Kids could be paid less and more easily managed

In the age of Industrialization, a large labor force was required and unfortunately many young children consisted of this force. 18 percent of American workers were under at 16 during the start of the 20th century and most of these boys accepted wages and conditions that most grown men would not accept. Opposition of child labor came from companies who could exploit child labor since younger boys were small and could get around more difficult spaces and more importantly they accepted much lower pay and wouldn’t gather up to complain to adults about their condition.

Progressives

Florence Kelley persuaded the Illinois state legislature to outlaw child labor

Governor Hiram Johnson limited work days for women and children to 8 hours

Lewis Hine and Jacob Riis both photographers and reporters, published dramatic photographs that showed the conditions of child laborers across the nation and the plight of the poor in urban slums

National Child Labor Committee in addition to many state child labor committees helped expose problem through investigations by experts, photography, mass mailing to public, and lobbying

Significance and Relevance

We are currently in school and not working

Children are able to receive an education

Able to pursue their own interests

Able to lead a country because of the education we are receiving

More jobs are available

Allows innovations that leads to profit in the economy

Monument Plan

Portrays a baby in a coal mine trying to pick up a pick axe to work

Represents that a child born into a working class family was destined to work until they die

Meaning: Kids start working too early than they should

Model is made of paper and cardboard

Inscription on monument:

“If we can’t begin to agree on fundamentals, like the elimination of the most abusive forms of child labor, then we are really not ready to march into the future” – Alexis Herman

Slogan

“Let's do a favor and end child labor!”
