Assignment 1: LASA 2: Organization Website Review

Directions:

Select either an international service organization or a multinational corporation and conduct a preliminary assessment of their website.

In your review:

  • Explain your initial impression of the organization based upon your initial review of their corporate website.
  • Analyze their Vision, Mission and Goals  in reference to the company’s competitive strategy, branding and messaging
  • Analyze the company’s strategic approach to globalization and their approach to competition, sustainability, CSR, marketing, analysis (external, internal, industry), and cross border issues
  • Examine the company’s financials included in their most recent annual report and review the profit margin statement from the CEO. What conclusions can you draw from their financial statements?
  • Evaluate the firm’s Corporate Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility Policy. What expectations are presented in the policy? Explain the tangibility of the company’s policies
  • Include an organizational assessment using SWOT or Porter’s Five Forces
  • Explain the company’s capacity to be able to fulfill strategic missions while increasing profit margin
  • Include an Introduction and Summary statement in your review.

Your paper should be between 7 -10 pages in length, in correct APA format and use 4-5 outside sources.

Medical Case Study Essay

Derek is a 25-year-old male who recently moved back in with his parents after his girlfriend was killed by a drunk driver 2 months ago. He had been dating his girlfriend for the past 3.5 years. As she was walking across a busy intersection to meet him for lunch, she was hit by a passing vehicle. He still vividly remembers the horrifying scene as the drunk driver ran the red light, plowing down his girlfriend right before his eyes. He ran to the scene, embracing her crumpled body as she died in his arms in the middle of the crosswalk. He keeps trying to erase the scene from his memory, but can’t seem to stop reliving the entire incident as if it was happening all over.

 

Derek has been having nightmares about the accident almost every night since the accident. He had to quit his job because his office was located in the building right next to the little café where he was meeting his girlfriend for lunch the day she died. The few times he attempted to return to work were unbearable for him. He has since avoided that entire area of town.

 

Normally an outgoing, fun-loving guy, Derek has become increasingly withdrawn and irritable since his girlfriend’s death. He’s stopped going to the gym, playing his guitar, or going out with his friends – all activities he once really enjoyed. His parents worry about how detached and emotionally flat he’s become.

Answer the following questions in essay format about Derek’s condition:

  • Observation: What are some of the observations you can make about Derek’s current state of health and well-being based on the information you have?

  • Question: What question (or questions) would you formulate about his condition to help you arrive at a diagnosis?
  •  
  • Hypothesis: What do you currently know about short- and long-term stress and its effects on the body that can help you arrive at a hypothesis about his condition? Incorporate your knowledge of stress and inflammation to help you develop at least one hypothesis concerning his condition.

  • Experiment: How could you collect data to help you answer your questions above? Remember, you do not have a control in this scenario, so you must evaluate the case based on Derek’s symptoms alone. Do a bit of research on the technology available today that could help you evaluate his condition. Examples of new technology include brain imaging, blood chemistry, hormone level tests, CAT scans, MRIs, and DNA mapping.

  • Result: Now that you have some additional information, briefly and in simple terms, describe how you would test any missing information about Derek’s condition.

Complete a mental status exam based on Janelle from the video. Imagine that you are meeting with her after the birth of her child. Describe your observations of the different areas listed in the outline in Figure 18.2 (pages 339–340). You will have to imagine how Janelle would have presented herself to you based on the information that Janelle shared during the video and based on the research that you conducted on postpartum depression.

Assignment 1: LASA 2: Situational Analysis: Flight 232

Effective leadership negotiation strategies are helpful in building a sphere of influence, especially in times of emergency or a crisis. In this assignment, you will analyze a case study video and perform a situational analysis. The activity will allow you to assess the crisis situation and examine factors that affect the final resolution of the problem.

The purpose of this assignment is to develop your leadership and crisis management skills by using a real-life case study example.

Case Study: On July 19, 1989, United Airways Flight 232 DC 10 was en route from Denver to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, via Chicago. The plane had to make an emergency crash landing in Sioux City, Iowa, because of an engine failure that occurred 1 hour into the flight. Approximately 296 passengers including business people, vacationers, and children were on board.

Part 1: Personal Profile
The case study includes several characters such as the captain, the copilot, a DC-10 flight training instructor, and a senior flight attendant who play a crucial role in the final outcome of the crisis.

Select two of the characters involved in this case study and create a personal profile of each including their title, work type, position in job, education, training, and personality type. Include both of the personal profiles as appendices in your research paper.

Use your assigned readings, information from the Argosy library, the Internet and the case study video clip provided to develop a research paper that answers the questions below in Part 2.

Part 2: Choose one of the two characters you profiled and answer these questions in a 5-7 page research paper.

  • Critically examine the role of the crew on board and explain situations that needed more attention and that could have been addressed within the given constraints.
  • Describe at least three factors that affected the resolution of the problem.
  • What is the main goal of the character you are analyzing? Support your response.
  • How effective or ineffective was the individual in his/her attempt to meet the goals? Why?
  • What specific personal negotiation and leadership skills did he or she demonstrate throughout the crisis?

These include the deployment of more technology to extend reach and access, increased globalization, increased diversity, more focus on extended supply chains, and a more nomadic workforce. In this assignment, you will consider these trends and analyze how they may impact your selected organization and what actions are necessary to get ready to address these trends.

You have been appointed by your organization (either a hypothetical one or one you are familiar with) to prepare its Workforce 2020 executive report.  

The report should be as detailed as possible for the CEO of your organization. That means it should include the key points of your research, analysis, and findings. The report should also contain examples of specific application to your company in a clear, concise, and informative document.  

In Module 4, you began your research on Workforce 2020. In this module, you will expand on the work you did in Module 4. Take Module 4’s paper, and incorporate the items below into your work.
